CBD made its way into the mainstream media with CNN’s documentary titled “Weed”. The documentary came at a time when the legalization of marijuana was hotly debated and featured people suffering from serious illnesses that were using CBD oil as treatment.
So what exactly is CBD?
CBD is one of the 104 compounds found in cannabis sativa plants, and has shown impressive results in treating illnesses like epilepsy, cancer, anxiety, depression, Parkinson’s disease and more. Other forms of marijuana can also alleviate some health issues but CBD does it without triggering psychosis which is why it’s often referred to as ‘Miracle Marijuana’
How does it work?
Scientists have yet to understand exactly CBD functions but they have found that it slows down the breakdown of chemicals that are linked to cognitive functions, emotions and pain. All these components are deeply affected by serious physical and mental illnesses.
Continuous consumption of CBD leads to a rise of CBD in the bloodstream and reduces the breakdown of brain chemicals, providing relief from pain, anxiety and psychosis.
How is it used?
CBD can be consumed by oral ingestion, vaping and rubbing it on the skin. CBD is most commonly used as an oil which is created by mixing extracted CBD with coconut oil or hemp seed oil.
You can consume CBD oil in the following ways:
- Drink 2 spoonfuls of the oil every day. It is metabolized by the lived before it makes its way into the bloodstream.
- Mix spoonfuls of the oil in your favorite drinks or food. It’s absorbed by the body along with all the vitamins and minerals present in your food.
- Place the oil under your tongueand let it be absorbed by the mucus present in your mouth. This way to oil bypasses the digestive track and transfers directly to the bloodstream.
- Chew it as gum
- Rub it into your skin. The oil should seep through the skin an into your bloodstream.
Each method of consumption has its own pros and cons.
