How Should I Get Started?

Known for its gorgeous maple trees and maple-themed attractions, Maple Grove is truly a sight for sore eyes. As one of the most vibrant and eclectic cities in Minnesota, Maple Grove has transformed into a beautiful mélange of tranquility, hospitality, and rich culture over the years.

Locals here are all-too-familiar with the powerful benefits of medical marijuana, and use it for a wide range of conditions, including anxiety, chronic pain, seizures, and PTSD. However, according to marijuana laws in Minnesota, the possession of recreational marijuana is a misdemeanor or felony. This means possession of up to 42.5 grams of marijuana is officially punishable, with a fine of $200.

While the push toward legalization is in the works, patients across Maple Grove have been increasingly applying for medical marijuana certification. While recreational marijuana is illegal, medical marijuana was legalized in May 2014. The long-winded process, however, tends to put many people off.

At IndicaMD, we’re committed to making things much easier for patients by offering HIPAA-compliant medical cannabis telemedicine services. Our marijuana doctors work assiduously to ensure patients are granted approval and undergo the medical marijuana registration process with ease.

It’s important to note that if you don’t suffer from one of the aforementioned conditions, you cannot apply for medical marijuana certification. Once you’ve ascertained that you qualify for application, sign up online by following our quick and easy registration process.

We’ll inquire into your health, medical history, and general background to determine your eligibility. This will be followed by a video chat with our licensed medical marijuana doctor. You will be requested to answer some questions and discuss your condition. Feel free to pose any queries you may have regarding the qualification and registration process.

Once we’ve examined your condition, we’ll grant approval so you can proceed with the registration process as outlined by the Minnesota Department of Health’s Office of Medical Cannabis (OMC).

You will receive an email that enables you to register online and obtain essential information. Shortly after the registration process, you will receive final approval in the form of your medical marijuana certification.

Please note that currently, we only offer our telemedicine services and virtual visits for our existing cannabis patients in Minnesota who require recertification. Through video chat with an experienced physician, we help rectify that you have a qualifying condition for the Minnesota Cannabis Program.

If you are a new patient and have a qualifying medical condition for the Minnesota Cannabis Program, please set up an in-person physical appointment with our physician to get the Medical Marijuana Card.

On May 30, Gov. Tim Walz signed the bill that legalizes adult-use cannabis in Minnesota (for more details, visit the Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management). The legislation includes good news for Minnesota Medical Cannabis Program patients:
  • Effective July 1, 2023, the annual enrollment fee will be eliminated.
  • Effective Aug. 1, 2023, a patient’s initial certification visit with a health care practitioner can be conducted via telemedicine.
  • Effective March 1, 2025, patients will be required to get recertified for their qualifying medical condition every three years, instead of every year.
  • Effective March 1, 2025, the age for registered caregivers to purchase cannabis flower will be 18, rather than 21.

While the tax on adult-use cannabis product sales will be 10% (in addition to state and local sales taxes), medical cannabis products will continue to be tax-free.

The Medical Cannabis Program will establish an alternative certification procedure for veterans who receive care from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to confirm that the veteran has been diagnosed with a qualifying medical condition. The new application procedure will be effective Jan. 1, 2024. We will share more about this procedure at a later date.
